Components of a 360 Interactive Experience
A 360 Interactive Experience is usually built of 360° videos and interactions. Cinexes (short for cinematic experiences) are authors' creations. They can be very basic (like a single 360° image), or very complex like a set of 360° videos you can navigate through, like in a game.
Cinex Node
You can think of a node as an enhanced 360 video or image. When building a 360 experience, you are going to connect several nodes together. In the following example, we can see four nodes corresponding to four images.
Transition
The connection that can take you from one node to another. Triggered for example by Interaction or Time Events, they can happen instantaneously or with a fade out → fade in animation.
Environment
An environment can be a 360° video or a 360° photo. Each node has one.
Interactive Elements
Elements in a cinex node which can be placed in the environment allow interactivity. They can be an image, a button in a menu or they can contain an audio track, for example. It can even be a video.
Users are able to interact with them, for example via looking at them or touching them. The most basic use is to trigger the Transition from one Node to another by gazing at a button like the one shown on the image on the right.
Events
Events are a core part of VRdirect. They define what happens under certain conditions, for example if you touch an interactive element. There are two types of events: time events and interaction events. Time events can define what happens after a certain amount of time, for example exactly 4 seconds after starting an experience. Interaction events describe what happens when the user interacts with interactive elements: when they look at them, touch them, etc.
You can choose what happens for both cases: for example, you can switch to another node via triggering a transition, you can show and hide other interactive elements, you can play sounds or videos, etc.
